Speedy Signs Franchise FAQs
Before taking the next step, you'll likely have questions about opening a Speedy Signs business.
Below are straightforward answers to the questions prospective business owners ask us most often, including investment requirements, finance, training, ongoing support and what running the business involves.

Speedy Signs is New Zealand’s largest signage network, helping businesses promote, identify and communicate their brands through professional signage solutions. We are a well-recognised franchise with a strong brand identity and reputation built since 1998.
Our franchisees work with customers across a wide range of industries, providing building signage, vehicle graphics, indoor and outdoor signage, wayfinding, banners, displays and more. Each location manages the customer journey from consultation and design through to production, project management and installation.
Speedy Signs combines the independence of business ownership with the systems, brand recognition, purchasing power and support of an established national franchise network. Almost every business in New Zealand is a potential customer, creating significant opportunity for growth, scalability and recurring revenue. With demand spanning virtually every industry, signage is a resilient market that is less reliant on the performance of any one sector.
Speedy Signs has several key points of difference in the New Zealand signage market.
• Professional showrooms: Our showrooms support a consultative sales approach, helping franchisees uncover more customer needs, generate larger multi product orders and build recurring business.
• High visibility locations: We focus on prominent commercial sites that strengthen local brand presence and help generate organic enquiries.
• Unmatched national coverage: No other signage network in New Zealand matches our national footprint, giving Speedy Signs the reach to service national customers and create larger project opportunities for franchisees.
• Quality, service and speed: These are central to the Speedy Signs brand and help franchisees build strong customer relationships and repeat business.
• New Zealand’s only franchised signage network: Our franchise model gives owners access to national marketing, purchasing power, proven systems, shared knowledge and network opportunities that can help generate more sales and improve profitability.
For a new Speedy Signs location, the total investment is approximately $250,000 as of 2026. This includes:
- Franchise fee: $54,500
- Production equipment: approximately $162,000
- Fit-out, minor plant and sundries: approximately $33,500 (Location dependent)
You should allow between $30,000-$50,000 in working capital, bringing the total funding requirement to approximately $300,000.
You do not need to provide the full amount in cash. Equipment leasing and finance may be available to approved applicants, allowing eligible franchisees to get started with a minimum of approximately $150,000 of their own funds. We will work through the expected investment and funding structure with you as part of the franchise process.
You are purchasing an established business system rather than building a signage company from scratch.
Your Speedy Signs franchise provides access to:
• The Speedy Signs brand and established business model
• Comprehensive initial training
• Proven operating systems, procedures and resources
• Preferred suppliers and group purchasing arrangements
• Marketing and technical support
• Ongoing training and education
• The Speedy Signs Mentor Programme
• Support from an experienced national franchise team
• Access to a collaborative network of established franchise owners, including referral opportunities and cross-brand work with our sister company Fully Promoted
The objective is to give you the systems, knowledge and support required to get your business established and continue developing it over time.
Earning potential depends largely on the individual franchisee and how effectively they develop and manage their business.
Speedy Signs operates across a broad range of signage products, industries and customer types, giving franchisees considerable opportunity to grow their customer base, develop repeat business and increase the capacity of their team over time. Approximately 70 percent of Speedy Signs business comes from repeat customers.
Following your enquiry, we will work with you to develop a personalised business planning budget. This will help you understand the expected costs, revenue requirements and potential returns so you can assess whether the opportunity suits your financial goals.
The standard Speedy Signs royalty is 6 percent of gross sales revenue, paid monthly.
Once a location’s sales exceed $1,300,000 within a financial year, the royalty reduces to 4 percent on revenue above that threshold, rewarding franchisees as their business grows.
Franchisees also benefit from the collective purchasing power of the Speedy Signs network. Preferred supplier pricing and group purchasing can deliver savings that sometimes even cover the cost of franchise royalties, providing buying power that would be difficult to achieve independently.
All royalties, contributions and ongoing obligations will be fully explained in the franchise documentation before you commit to the business.
No. Previous experience in signage, graphic design or sign production is not required.
Speedy Signs franchisees have come from a wide range of professional backgrounds including senior management, business development, sales, accounting, engineering, project management and previous business ownership.
Comprehensive training covers the knowledge required to understand the signage industry and operate the business. More important is having a sales mindset, being comfortable dealing with customers, managing people and following established systems and processes.
The owner's primary role is to lead and grow the business, rather than needing to be the most experienced signwriter or production person in the team.
Typical responsibilities include:
• Meeting prospective and existing customers
• Understanding their branding requirements
• Preparing and following up quotations
• Developing new business and repeat customer opportunities
• Building relationships within the local business community
• Managing larger projects and customer accounts
• Leading and developing employees
• Monitoring workflow, quality and deadlines
• Managing the financial performance of the business
Speedy Signs is predominantly a business to business operation, making it primarily a Monday to Friday business.
You do not need to learn the business alone.
Speedy Signs provides comprehensive initial training incorporating in-person training, practical onsite experience and ongoing development.
Before opening, the Speedy Signs support team can assist with:
- Site selection and lease negotiations
- Store planning and fit-out
- Equipment installation and set-up
- Budgets and business planning
- Recruitment and staff training
- Showroom samples and consumables
- Pre-opening marketing
- Comprehensive franchisee training
Once you begin trading, you will continue to receive guidance and support from the Auckland-based support team. Ongoing support includes an operations manual, online knowledge base, training sessions, regional meetings, industry trade shows, an annual conference and access to our experienced support team.
New owners can also participate in the Speedy Signs Mentor Programme, which connects them with experienced franchisees who can share practical knowledge and advice from operating their own businesses.
Speedy Signs combines national brand marketing with local business development to help franchisees build their customer base.
Being part of a national network also creates opportunities that an independent signage company will find difficult to secure. Speedy Signs can coordinate signage projects for organisations operating across multiple locations throughout New Zealand, creating opportunities for franchisees to secure national account work.
Franchisees are still expected to actively develop their local market through networking, prospecting, customer relationships and referrals. The strongest results come from combining the strength of the national brand with consistent local sales activity.
Speedy Signs is a scalable business model that can grow alongside the goals of the franchisee.
Owners can start with a smaller team and increase capacity as the business grows by adding salespeople, in house designers, production staff and installers. Growth can come from increasing local market share, developing larger commercial customers, building repeat business and securing multi site and national account opportunities.
Multiple franchisees within our network have expanded into multiple Speedy Signs locations, while others have added our sister brand, Fully Promoted, creating a one-stop shop for all of a business’s branding requirements.
Ultimately, the scale of the business depends on the goals and ambition of the franchisee, with our support team there to help develop a clear pathway for growth.
